Wordpress upgrade

Saturday, January 10th, 2009

Finally took the step and upgraded to Wordpress 2.7 (released a month ago). Everything seems to look same and function correctly except the admin pages that have gone through massive changes. There are more useful changes & new features but right now I’m good with having upgraded - new features I can learn later.

It was a success

Tuesday, December 23rd, 2008

My phpinclude plugin seems to have been success. Only 1 day after release I’ve already have almost 79 visitors on the page and several downloads just from this site. I guesss large part of the success came from adding my plugin to WorddPress Plugin Database @ wp-plugins.net and reviewing my plugin page on my StumbleUpon favorites so big thanks to social media! =)

I found some sites even mentioning my plugin (leaving out the obvious ones mentioned above):

  • Weblog tools collection, post WordPress Plugin Releases for 12/22
The page listed several plugins but a user had even commented mine (not to mention that it was the only comment when I looked. Apparently he had been looking for something like this for some of the same reasons I created it and he had even tried some plugins trying to achieve somehing similiar.
  • WordPress Planet apparently lists new plugin entries from different blogs. It’s kind of pathetic to mention this here because my plugin was mentioned in entry from Weblog tools Collection, which I listed just above

Noothing else this time, I’m just happy about my success. Will this get me fame? Possible. Money? Not likely. Happiness through rocognizion: Definately.

NEW: Page for programmers

Wednesday, December 17th, 2008

Today I added a subpage on programming here. The purpose is to write guides, provide examples and give out source code for various open source programs / scripts I have made. Previously I have released some of them, but none here. I will, in time, provide them all here, but starting moderately I first added one *nix shell script tool, a directory tree lister.

Protect your OSS code against patent trolls

Monday, December 15th, 2008

I bumped into heart warming article, File your open source code with Linux Defenders, at zdnet.com’s blog site. To put it out in sort, the article advices to file your OSS source code at LinuxDefenders.org “to prove your authorship of open source code and protect it from patent trolls” - an important step bacause otherwise your great application may, in future, become illegal in some of the silly countries where software can be given patents (even if those filing the patent were not the inventors if they are first to file). Even worse, if you live in country that recognives software patents you may be in big trouble.

Upgrade!

Sunday, September 7th, 2008

Originally I did not mean to post anything new before I get new theme set up here and everything… Well, yesterday I however was so tired and confused from everything else that after upgrading to latest wordpress version (almost painlessly, I only forgot to put the “maintenance mode” plugin that I had just installed in use) that I decided it would be better get some rest. However now I decided to mention that there are going to be some large changes in this blog… Should get some new features and services and also I have several things to post about (window managers, programming, the notorius DVD/CSS-issue, etc.) and more… So wait for it, wont take long :)

Btw. if anyone knows any nice “mini-blog” plugins for the sidebar, well, post a comment :)

New blogware

Monday, June 23rd, 2008

I switched to new blogging software, wordpress.

While many people never saw the old one because I was always too “busy” (or so I claim) to tell anyone about it spambots certainly did know about it! Even after installing CAPTCHA on my blog I still received hundreds of spam comments daily. Couple days ago I decided to try stronger CAPTCHA so I could open the blog for posting again but found out that bBlog was no longer continued and decided to try other blogging software instead…

So welcome to my new wordpress blog! I am hoping that the blog offers security it claims as then I would not need to use those un-userfriendly CAPTCHA images to verify that poster is really a person, not a bot.
